If I Were Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia Today

If I were to go back in time 25 years, and get my fibromyalgia diagnosis today, here is what I would do differently:

  1. Consult a nutritionist or naturopathic doctor who specializes in fibromyalgia, preferably someone who lives with fibro and therefore, has walked a mile in your shoes

  2. Hold off on taking any medication until I address my diet and lifestyle habits first

  3. Get specific bloodwork checked - most notably, B12, iron, vitamin D, thyroid, adrenals, blood sugar, etc. and then have it read by a naturopathic doctor who use “optimal” ranges

  4. Start with what’s on my plate - whole foods first

  5. Supplement with the appropriate high quality fibro targeted supplements. These can be found at health food stores or online through Fullscript.

  6. Get outside and walk in nature daily

  7. Get sun exposure daily

  8. Stop over-exercising - I was a competitive soccer player, and although I lived and breathed that sport and it brought me immense joy, I’m sure it was also depleting my adrenals even further and worsening my chronic fatigue and chronic pain, delaying my healing process

  9. Listen to my body, it will tell me what it needs

  10. Learn to pace myself, manage energy wisely, and accept help when needed

  11. Address stress with meditation and stress management techniques

There are tons more tips I would give myself if I could go back in time 25 years, but that’s where I come in to play in order to help YOU with YOUR fibromyalgia. I’ve spent all of that time researching, educating myself and doing trial and error so that I could get my fibromyalgia to the point I’m at today - reduced pain, reduced fatigue, reduced stiffness, and better sleeps.
